Basic Makeup Kit | Face Edition

Hii my beauties 💋 💋 !!

I’ve been asked so many times what exactly should a basic Makeup Kit look like for a regular girl, so I decided to write a post about it answering all of your questions. You might have seen beauty bloggers/vloggers having tons and tons of makeup, but that is only because we like to test everything out so we can share the best of the best. A regular person doesn’t need that much makeup, one or two of each is more than enough.

I will separate this post into three editions, the face one, eyes and lips, so I can go more in detail about each without the post being too long.

Today’s post will be the face edition. Just for reference I have an oily to combination skin type so I will talk about products that suit my skin type, and I will share a drugstore and a high end option.

So, what should you have in your makeup kit?

It is crucial to have a PRIMER in your makeup kit. Not just to prevent for the oil messing up your makeup but to also work as a barrier for the skin, so the makeup doesn’t get absorbed into the skin easily. So the drugstore option of a primer that I would recommend is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer and for high-end I would recommend the Benefit POREfessional.

COLOR CORRECTOR is not necessary, but if you have dark circles and it bothers you, you can use one. You can use the Catrice AllRound Concealer palette as a drugstore option or the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in the shade Peach for a high end option.

For FOUNDATION I like to go for the full coverage look, and for oily skin I recommend the L’Óreal Infallible 24h-Matte as a drugstore option and the Estee Lauder, Double Wear Foundation as higher end. Both of these foundation are really good and leave a flawless finish on the skin.

All of us need a good CONCEALER to help us hide those dark under-eye bags or even to brighten up our faces. For a drugstore option I would recommend the La Girl Pro Concealer and as a high-end option the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Both of them are really good.

Applying SETTING POWDER to the skin is very important. To make sure all that foundation and concealer don’t budge. For a drugstore option I would recommend the Rimmel Stay Matte and for a higher-end I would recommend the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.

For BLUSH I would recommend getting 2/3 shades that suit your skin shade the best. For drugstore I like the Wet’n Wild formulation and for higher end I like the MAC formulation. Both of these brands have really good blushes and a really good color selection.

Now to bring some dimension back to the face, you should use BRONZER and CONTOUR, although contouring isn’t necessary, but since it is a huge trend right now and everyone wants to do it I would recommend getting a contour and bronzer palette, it’s definitely a better deal for the use you will get out of it. I don’t have a drugstore option but I have an inexpensive one and it is the BH Cosmetics Forever Nude, Sculpt & Glow and for a high-end option the Smashbox Contour Palette.

For HIGHLIGHTER to be honest I have not tried many drugstore options but I have the NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette, it has many options and they are really good. And for high-end I would recommend the BECCA Highlighters, those are really good and well formulated.

And last but not the least FIXING SPRAYS. Everyone needs one, especially we oily skinned ones. For drugstore I recommend the L’Oréal Infallible Fixing Spray and for higher end the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. Both of these products are really good!

And that is all for my face products recommendations. Hope this post was helpful to you guys.

*Note that these products are not dupes I just like them, from what I have tried on.

  1. Great post! As someone who has been wearing make up for over 40 years, you really don’t need a lot. I think some girls get carried away and feel they just have to pile on as many products as they can. Less really is more.

  2. LOVE the primers & the Estee Lauder foundation! Im still wanting to try out the Infalliable one, but cant seem to get my shade here at my local Kmart. Pretty hard to get department store foundations trying to find your shade is pretty harsh 😦 Im the one in the make up section looking up swatches – LOL! Would you happen to know a shad that matches MAC NC40?

    1. I understand, it’s a bit hard with the drugstore foundations. It’s hard because sometimes they don’t even have your perfect shade, and that sucks. I am NC35 and my match on the Loreal one is Golden Beige, it may be 1 or 2 shades darker than that one.
